2015 Pattern Recap: Cascade Duffle Coat
We released quite a few patterns this year so we thought it would be fun to do a little recap on them along with any posts related to them. We'll start with our first pattern of 2015, the Cascade Duffle Coat! This pattern was released back in January, you can read our original release post here, but the idea for the coat started long before that.
The original prototype for this coat was made back in Nov. 2012, which you can read about in this post. I love the coat so much that I thought it would make a great pattern. Unfortunately with it being so involved and me working on my own, it took forever to produce. Things sped up in fall of 2014 once Kendra came on board and we were able to pick up the pace and finally release this beauty!
The Cascade has two views, a short coat with a collar and a longer version with a hood. The hood and collar are interchangeable between the two coats which is pretty handy depending on your needs.
One thing I feel sets the Cascade apart from other duffle coats is the fact that it includes both a traditional toggle front closure as well as a hidden zipper to keep away the cold.
We've got plenty of inspiration to get you motivated for your own coat as well. There are plenty of photos in this post, but if that isn't enough, we also have a pretty great Cascade Inspiration board over on Pinterest.
Once you're inspired, choosing all the supplies necessary for a full on winter coat can be an overwhelming task but we have a complete photo supply list to make the process easier and much more manageable.
In addition to a photo supply post we also have a full, in depth photo sew along for every step of the coat. We walk you through everything so there's no need to fret. If you've never bagged a jacket lining before, prepare for your coat making world to be revolutionized. Seriously it's like magic the first time you bag one! Seeing the patterns come to life is one of the best parts about all of this, so I'd like to showcase a few Cascades I grabbed from Instagram! So many smiles and so many beautiful coats, it makes me so happy! Make sure you hashtag #grainlinestudio and the pattern name so that we can see what everyone is up to! This is also how we chose projects for our Sew & Tell series. The official pattern hashtags are included on each pattern.
