We (Accidentally) Have a New Site
Share
Well it's been a wild wild week over here. Last Thursday morning I woke up to a message from a very kind customer (thank you again!) who informed me that everything was listed as out of stock on our website. After some back and forth with our developer we had discovered later that afternoon that part of our old site had been depreciated without any warning to us or them. At that point Jon and I had to decide if we wanted to spend time and money to force an old site to work, or scrap it and design a new one on the most current platform. We went with the latter – and while I wish it had been more planned out – it was the clear choice, especially since we've been wanting to do a refresh for a while.
What that meant was Jon and I working together for 4 days straight days on the site, and then here and there since then. Jon, being a designer, was in charge of the look, while I being the one who knows sewing, tackled formatting all of our site info into the out-of-the-box Shopify theme. Product listings no longer had the custom functionality of drop-downs for fabric, notions, size charts, and additional pattern information that keep the description from being too long cluttered.
I'm really proud of how it's turned out so far, I think overall it's a much cleaner, easier to navigate site, and most of that is thanks to the newer functionality Shopify has released since we originally built our site. That said there is still a lot of work to do...just by our developer instead of us.
The main thing outstanding on the site right now is we've lost our custom sew-along pages. We will be having new ones built, and they'll be even better than the last ones, but in the mean time if you need to reference a sew-along you can do that by using the search bar. All of the posts are still there on the blog, they're just not being pulled into one, usefully laid out page at the moment.
We're working on getting our retailers back up at the moment so if you're a shop owner, or your local shop that carries our patterns, let us know so we can pop you on the new list! Now that we sell so heavily through distributors we have no way of knowing what shops are purchasing our patterns unless they purchase from us, so we really rely on shop owners letting us know they'd like to be added to the retailers list.
If you find yourself on the site, give it a look around and if you've found something missing, broken, or difficult to navigate please feel free to reach out and let me know. It's just Jon and I over here so getting feedback from others is really important, especially from the people using our site regularly!
Anyway, I'm SO glad to be back live with the site and regularly scheduled content will be arriving next week!
