Thayer Sew-Along: Assembling the Back
Our fronts are finished and now it's time to make the back of our Thayer Jackets! This is a relatively quick and straightforward post after Wednesday's pockets post.
Align the two back pieces along the center back seam line, with their right sides facing each other, matching edges and notches. Sew along the center back.
Grade the seam allowance of one of the backs by trimming the seam allowance in half. In our example here we trimmed the right back when looking at the jacket wrong side up.
Now press the seam allowance towards the side you graded.
This is what your back currently looks like right side up.
Now topstitch along the center back seam through the back seam allowances.
We'll now attach the back yoke. Line the lower edge of the yoke up with the top edge of the jacket back, with right sides together, pin in place, and stitch.
Now grade the seam allowance of the yoke by trimming it in half.
Press the yoke and seam allowances up, away from the jacket.
We're now ready to topstitch the yoke!
Place two lines of topstitching through the yoke and seam allowances in the same manner you've been doing. That's it for the back!
