Reed Sew-Along: Views B & D Hem Extensions
Today is for all of you making the longer versions of the Reed Skirt, we'll be attaching the lower portion of the skirts! I love this version, especially in the button down configuration. I think it's so cute with clogs, and we all know that's very important to me, ha!
To begin, take the front panels you made in the previous steps. You'll be pressing this seam allowance open so I like to finish the edge now, before I sew it to the lower panel. You can definitely finish it after sewing the seam though!
While we're finishing seam allowances, do the same to the top of the hem extension panels if you're finishing your seam allowances before stitching.
Align the top of the hem extension with the lower edge of the front panel. Right sides should be facing each other. Sew across the lower edge.
Press the seam allowance open.
From the front your skirt now looks like this.
Stitch on either side of the seam line at 1/4" to anchor the seam allowances in place.
Repeat these steps for the other three skirt panels. You're then ready to sew your side and center front or back seams (depending on which version you're making), which we'll do in our next post!
