New Year, New Projects: Socks, Sweaters & More from My Holiday Break
Well I truly cannot believe it, it’s somehow 2025! I spent the last month or so of 2024 sick so it really crept up on me this year. Every year I take the two weeks of Christmas & New Year’s off to relax, reset, and catch up on projects I’ve let go for too long, and this year was no exception, though it was a little lighter than I’d hoped on the catching up due to a lingering cough.
First up on my list of projects was another pair of socks for my mom. Every year for Christmas I make her a pair, and she’s the only person I would use a size 0 needle for because she actually wears them till they die. I got a little behind schedule due to the fact that I pierced a little hole in the tip of my finger which I’ve since learned from many of you on Instagram is a THING with these tiny needles. I usually use a small leather thimble when knitting her yearly pair but it’s gone missing and neither beagle is talking. KT tape worked pretty well though thankfully, so I just need to block and gift those now.
The second project I finished up was a new sweater for Okie. When we got him he was 9 months old and he’s filled out into a cute little almost 3 year old beagle so it was time to gift the old sweater to his friend Fozzie and cast on a new one. I once again used the Purl Soho Lucky Dog Sweater pattern since it’s pretty easy customizable and beagles are kind of not shaped like other dogs their size. The yarn is Purl Soho Daily Wool, which is a 100% superwash wool, in Flame Red. Lil guy likes his bright colors! I also bought yarn for a sweater for Poppy, but hers wasn’t needed as imminently as Okie’s since she’s got much longer fur, 10 lbs on him, and doesn’t do tracking every Sunday morning. Once I finish Poppy’s and get a few pics of them in their sweaters I’ll do a more in-depth post.
Finally, my last project is kind of a funny one. It’s a few pieces that I’ve had laying around since before we released the Town Bag pattern back in 2023. I cut a few pieces weren’t quite the right size while creating the pattern, and when I folded these in half to move out of my way I thought they might make a cute canvas portfolio of sorts. So I finally got these half sewn pieces out of my sewing room and made the bag! I also still need photos of this, and I think it will require its own post, but it turned into a bag to take to tracking with Okie. You can see in these pics that I was playing with adding a shoulder strap, which is pretty fun. Need to do a little more with that before I do any sort of tutorial though.
So that’s my little end of break roundup! I hope you all had an excellent end to 2024 and start to 2025. I look forward to sewing with you all for another year!
