Meet the Poppy Dress
Today I'm excited to launch our newest pattern, the Poppy Dress! If you've been following the Grainline Instagram you might have spotted teasers of this pattern over the past six months and I couldn't be happier to be sharing it with you all today. To celebrate the launch of the Poppy we’re offering 20% the pattern from now until Sunday, November 3rd at 11:59 CDT. No code is needed, simply add the pattern to your cart and the discount will automatically be applied at checkout.
In today's post, I'll introduce you to the Poppy Dress—sharing why I love it, highlighting its design elements, and providing an overview of suitable fabrics. Over the next few weeks, I'll dive deeper into each of these topics and more with detailed posts.
And if a new pattern wasn’t enough, I've planned some exciting collaborations with one of our fabric partners, Yardblox Fabrics. Be sure to check back tomorrow for more details!
Now onto the design of the Poppy! The Poppy Dress is a versatile and playful dress that’s easy to wear for all types of occasions depending on which fabric you choose. Fitted shoulders anchor the silhouette on the body while gathering at the front and back of the yoke creates the dress's swingy, relaxed fit. The slightly dropped waistline meets tiered gathers in two lengths: just above the knee and midi-length.
The Poppy also includes two sleeve options, the first is a standard short sleeve which I love on their own or with a cardigan over top. Paired with either length, the short sleeves with a more structured fabric give the Poppy a more casual feel.
Longer sleeves gently gathered into cuffs – my personal favorite paired with the two-tiered skirt – is the second sleeve option for the Poppy. The gathering at the cuffs perfectly echoes the gathering at the yoke and skirt tiers while not being too large to be functional day-to-day.
The Poppy Dress works well with a wide variety of fabrics, from light to mid-weight. Examples recommended in the pattern instructions are cottons, lawns, voiles, rayon, viscose and rayon or viscose blends; linen, and linen blends. For our samples we used beautiful yarn-dyed woven cottons from Fableism Fabrics, saturated shot cottons from Free Spirit, and a linen-rayon blend from Yardblox Fabrics with the absolute perfect weight and drape. I have more posts scheduled all about fabric coming up in the next few weeks since I know choosing fabrics can be overwhelming for so many people.
At the moment the Poppy is only available in PDF format but never fear, paper patterns will be arriving shortly and I'll be sure to broadcast their arrival far and wide so you won't miss it.
I've got what I think is a really fun post schedule set up to compliment the release of the Poppy Dress – a giveaway (more info tomorrow), discount codes, pattern tester versions, and of course the usual posts about design details, fabric selection, styling & my own Poppy collection! I cannot wait to see how this pattern is interpreted by you so make sure you use the hashtags #GrainlineStudio and #GrainlinePoppy when posting on social media so I don't miss any of your makes!
