Jen's Fall Wardrobe Plans

After studying my wardrobe mood board from last week and really thinking about the current state of my closet, I spent the weekend planning my fall wardrobe plans. I'm taking part in Slow Fashion October this month on my personal Instagram account (@jen_beeman) and decided that this fall was going to be more of a basics building exercise for me since most of my handmades are worn out and need to be replaced. I want to create something I can build upon this winter with more exciting colors and textures so I came up with to 6-8 key sewn pieces and 2-3 sweaters. From left to right I'm planning...

  • A black terry Linden. Doesn't sound very exciting but I'm hoping to pair it with some more colorful skirts and tights this winter. Plus I already have the fabric and I know it will get a lot of wear on days I'm working from home. I'm hoping I can get a short and long sleeved Linden out of my 3 yds of fabric but we'll see.
  • I've been eyeing this shirt from Everlane and had plans to either purchase one or make up a pattern really quickly because honestly this seems like the kind of shirt I'm going to need more than one of. Then the other day I saw this Style Arc Blaire pattern and thought I have a few silks and shirtings that would work great for this top, just need to narrow it down and make a decision.
  • Definitely need a few silk layering Scouts. I've got navy and ivory silk set aside already, and I'd like to get a deep wine red color as well.
  • This dress was actually the pattern I used for my wedding dress. It's my perfect a-line dress with interesting seaming and even pockets! I will be making one in black as well as one in a deep green Liberty Lantana wool/cotton blend. Cannot wait for these!
  • Finally I will make a black Moss skirt. This one has been on my list for years but I swear it will be a reality this fall.
  • Of course none of my sewing plans would be complete without another Hemlock. I have a super great ivory sweater knit I'm planning on using for that one.
  • Not pictured but I have the Rumi tank by Christine Haynes cut out and some amazing lightweight wool jersey ready to roll to layer under some of these tops.

On the sweater front I have big plans that will likely take a year to complete but dreaming big is part of the fun right? From left to right...

  • Martine by Julie Hoover I'm about halfway done with this one and I think it's going to be so great for layering. Wishing I could finish it before I teach at Camp Workroom Social in 2 weeks but that's a tall order!
  • I've been wanting to make a boatneck, 3/4 sleeve (big surprise on those right?) sweater for a while, so I'm putting it on my list now!
  • This sweater is still forming in my mind but it will be made in the most beautiful shade of Cumbria yarn, Grizedale Forest. Textured with a pitched side seam. Torn on set in sleeves vs. drop shoulders as well as the ribbing situation, but as soon as I finish the sweater I'm knitting for my husband and my Martine the swatching for this one will begin!
So that's what I'm planning for fall! I think it's a good starting point to get my handmade wardrobe flowing again and leaves me lots of room to expand come winter.
