A Felix Dress with Waist Ties

Felix Dress with Waist Ties | Grainline Studio

Every time we wear a Felix Dress we're reminded of the secret magic of this pattern and dress. If you've sewn the Felix before you may have had similar sentiments - wearing this dress feels like wearing air. The loose fitting, billowy silhouette lends itself to comfort without sacrificing style which is what we've been craving during the dog days of summer. We recently added waist-ties to one of our older studio samples, and loved the resulting look too much not to share. It's as comfortable as the original dress, but the ties give you the ability to create a sleeker, defined silhouette.

When you put images of the untied dress next to the tied version you can really see the difference in shape. We can see ourselves wearing this untied for casual occasions, or big meals, and tying it when we have formal engagements.

We made our waist ties out of 1.25" (3.18 cm) bias cut fabric strips that we pressed in half, sewed using 1/4" (0.64 cm) seam allowance, and then turned right side out. We then inserted the straps at the intersection of the bodice and skirt along the side seam. Have you ever added waist ties to any of your dresses? Do you end up wearing it both ways?
