Summer of Basics: Getty Progress

Alright, we’re a month into the Summer Of Basics and its time for my first check in! My first garment for the challenge is the Getty sweater from Shibui Knits. Shibui was kind enough to send me the yarn and pattern for this sweater as part of the giveaway we did with them a few months back and I’ve been excited to knit it up ever since.

This sweater calls for two yarns held together. I’ve knit with Shibui yarns before, but both Twig & Cima are new to me yarns. Cima is 70% Superbaby Alpaca, 30% Fine Merino and Twig is 46% Linen, 42% Recycled Silk, 12% Wool so basically I’m knitting with every fiber all at once! I haven’t knit with two strands held together in a while so there’ve been a few times where I’ve absentmindedly only picked up one of the two strands, but overall it’s going well.

Most of this sweater was knit up north at my family’s cabin either on a dock or a boat, which really is my preferred way to knit. It’s a 6½ hour drive each way from Chicago which is perfect for making some excellent knitting progress since my husband always drives. I had the body done and had split for the front and back by the time we made it back home after the weekend.

I’m imagining wearing this sweater with a black Moss Skirt now that it’s about done, only problem is that I don’t have one! So my new dilemma is do I change my Summer of Basics plan and make a new Moss? I’ve had the perfect black cotton twill ready and waiting for this skirt for almost 2 years now. I should probably bite the bullet and make it now rather than ordering fabric for a new Summer of Basics garment right? Always so many decisions!

I’ve been super inspired to get back into blogging more now that we have this beautiful new platform to post on! My aim is to post more regularly about things I’m working on, or have made, which is something that has really dropped off for me over the past 2 years as we’ve grown and tried to adapt to the new workload. Between these sorts of posts you can find all of that on my personal project Instagram account @jen_beeman.

In other news I was recently featured on the Madelinetosh Blog as part of their Maker’s Series, so if you want to know more about my knitting process, you can read the article here!
