Jen's Me Made May Week 1 Recap
Well week 1 of Me Made May 2021 is in the books! I still don't love taking a daily photo but overall it hasn't been too bad and I've already learned a few things about what I need to be sewing up! So here's my recap on week 1 with pattern details.
Day 01: It was soooo windy that eventually I had to ask Jon to stop taking photos because we would have been there all day and just go with the windswept look. I'm wearing the Hemlock Tee that I made for our Hemlock Video Sew-Along. I used a thick jacquard wool knit and this top is one of my favorites.
The jacket is the original Thayer prior to it being turned into a pattern made from denim with a cotton knit body lining and quilted poly sleeves. I love the sleeve lining especially for windy days because it really keeps my arms warm!
My socks are the Cookie A BFF pattern knit up in Madelinetosh Twist Light. I have a few pairs in this yarn and pattern and I wear them constantly. I really really need to knit up more but I keep getting sidetracked by new yarns! New patterns! Then I don't wear them as much, so back to basics for me I think.
Day 2 was beautiful and a Sunday! I spent the day outside on the deck with my knitting, crossword, binoculars and Nintendo. I wore my Fancy Tiger Crafts Wanderlust Tee that I made into a dress a few years ago with leggings underneath. I used to be able to wear it as a dress without shorts or leggings but I made it from a linen blend knit and the more it got washed, the more it shrank lengthwise. I think even after probably 4 years? of washing it's still shrinking! Anyway I would really love to make a new one because it's a summer staple for me.
Day 3 was a new one for me! Well as in I made it this spring, not a few years ago. This is an Archer Button-up that I'm working on a tutorial for right now. I added width through the front and back while keeping the yoke the same so it fits my shoulders. More about this in a future post though!
The jeans are the Megan Nielsen Ash Jeans but via a comedy of errors I cut them in the wrong denim. So they are a biiiiiiit restrictive. The pattern calls for stretch denim and these just don't have enough of that. I definitely need more pants though, whether I make or buy them.
On Day 4 it was gloomy and cold which called for my ratty old Lucinda sweater designed by Madder Made. I made this many many years ago and I still wear it quite a bit. I paired it with my beautiful Jen Hewett scarf which ads a nice bit of color.
Was really not feeling a photo on Day 5 - wasn't feeling super great so instead I took a photo of what I'm working on! This is an Isager sweater called Hønsestrik inspiration. I bought the yarn for this sweater a few years ago and I'm really excited to finally be knitting it! If you noticed my hand on the side, I'm wearing the Addison sweater that will show up in the next day's photo.
Day 6 was a great day, I got a haircut!!!! My last haircut had been I think October 2020 so it was badly needed. I just realized I never blogged this sweater, but it's Addison by Julie Hoover knit up in Woolfolk Flette. I didn't put a ton of thought into making this, I'd wanted an Addison and Woolfolk gifted me a sweater's worth of this new yarn, but wow am I glad I did. I wear it ALL THE TIME! Highly recommend both the pattern and the yarn!
Day 6 bonus - it was cold and rainy so I got to wear my long Tamarack! I definitely have a lot of handmade coats, that's for sure! You can read more about this Tamarack here.
I spent days 7 & 8 working upstairs on samples for an upcoming photo shoot. For that I wore this sweater that I designed and knit up a few years ago. You can read more about that here. This sweater is destroyed and the yarn has really stretched out over the years so it's not anything I wear if I need to look nice, but it's great for a sewing day!
And finally we have Day 9 – I know a week is only 7 days long but I'm going Sunday to Sunday here and May started on a Saturday so roll with me on this. Anyway we were out in the suburbs helping Jon's family with some things so my Benton sweater was where it was at! Had a wild plaid shirt jacket over it and it was a lot of look. I love this sweater though and it still gets a fair amount of use. It's just so cozy!
So that's it for week 1! I think this is the furthest I've gotten into Me Made May in years so I'm feeling good about that! How's it going for you so far?!
