Pom-Pom Trim Petal Sleeve Scout Tee

As September is coming to a close, today's Scout Tee September post will be the last one in the series; however, we're far from done creating pattern modifications for the Scout. We have a so many more ideas bookmarked for the future, and we're already planning for next September.

Today, we're showing you how you can accent the petal sleeve Scout Tee variation with a pom-pom trim. This trim detail can be added at the hem or to other sleeves, with the exception of the cuffed sleeve, by following the same set of steps we're showing you below. You can also use a variety of trim options here from fringe to feathered. You could even try out an alternate accent detail like piping!

Begin sewing the petal sleeves following the petal sleeve pattern instructions through steps 1 and 2.

You can sew your hem down prior to attaching your trim or sew everything together in one pass. We found it slightly easier to sew the hem before positioning and attaching the trim. Either way, you'll need to position and determine where to place your trim.

Begin by pinning your trim in place along the hem edge of the sleeve piece. With the right sides facing up, bring the sleeve caps together so that they overlap one another. Align the top notch and edges with the back sleeve over the top of the front sleeve.

If you need help visualizing this please refer to Step 3 of the petal sleeve instructions. Mark the point where the front sleeve is overlapped by the back sleeve. You won't need your trim to extend past this point as it can create unnecessary bulk under the overlapping back sleeve cap.

Unfold your sleeve piece and remove the trim from the point you marked to the edge of the sleeve piece.

Sew down your trim, and your hem if you haven't already done so, using 1/4" (0.635 cm) seam allowance. Repeat these steps for the opposite sleeve, and then continue with the petal sleeve instructions beginning at Step 3.

We love how much the fringe jazzes up the Scout without automatically transitioning into the 'dressy' category. This can easily be paired with jeans for a casual day or paired with a pencil skirt for a business appropriate look. Have you used fringe or pom-pom trim when sewing before?
