Make a Cropped Scout this Summer!

I was cleaning out an old hard drive recently and found these images of the original Scout Tee. Did you know it was cropped originally!? I lengthened it for the sewing pattern but with all the high waisted skirts and pants happening right now I thought now would be a fun time to show you how to create your own cropped Scout! It's super easy so this won't take long!

Start by tracing out your Scout front and back pattern pieces onto a sheet of paper. Measure up from the hem line the amount that you want to crop the top. For our example here we cropped 5″ off. If you have a Scout you've made we recommend trying it on and marking where you'd like to crop yours. Then use that measurement to form the new hem line.

After you've marked the new hem, cut along that line and discard the bottom. Cut your Scout using the new front and back pattern pieces and sew it according to the instructions. That's all there is to it!

We used a silk chiffon for this cropped Scout and rather than applying a bias facing as instructed in the booklet, we bias bound the neckline edge. I find that a lot of times it looks neater on a sheer fabric. If you'd also like to try this crop with a sheer fabric, check out our tutorial on working with delicate necklines. The neckline there was done in the exact same way as this one and I think it really works well.
