Lark Variation Three: Colorblock Top

Lark Variation Three: Colorblock Top | Grainline Studio

Today I've got our third Lark Tee variation for you, and this one is a classic colorblock tee. You can see our previous variations here and here if you happened to miss those. This variation has a lot of potential for print and fabric mixing which I always love. It's a really easy variation that adds a lot of punch to an otherwise basic tee.

To start, you'll want to split your pattern into the two colorblock sections. You can split the pattern anywhere, but I chose the underarm for this version. Wherever you choose, just make sure that you're selecting points that match up between all three pattern pieces!

Split the pattern pieces and add your 1/4" seam allowance onto the cut edges. That's all the pattern alterations you need to do for this one. Next you'll cut your pieces out of fabric.

You'll want to first reattach the two halves of each pattern piece together to make complete pieces again. Press the seam allowances towards the hem of the garment.

Do this for all affected pieces. From here you're going to follow the instructions included in the Lark instruction booklet.

While sewing, just watch to make sure that all of your colorblocked seams are aligned properly. If this is something you have trouble with you might consider basting the seam line before placing your final seam since basting is easier to correct than a serged seam!

I also increased the hem depth of my top above from 3/4" to 1.5". Since I used a slightly more "sweatery" fabric, a hemp/cotton blend, it seemed to go well with overall feel of the top. This is totally optional though! That's it, a super easy pattern variation that gives a lot of visual interest. It's also a great solution for those cuts of knit fabric you have that are just short of the required yardage. I can't be the only one with those yardage pieces in my stash!
