Hadley Sew-Along: Assembling the Backs
Today we're assembling the backs of our Hadley Tops. If you're making view B there's nothing new for you here. Simply follow the instructions for the front shown here to sew your back pieces together. If you're making view A, skip past these two photos of view B for your instructions!
For view A follow the instructions below:
Begin by finishing the edges of the center back seam in the same manner as you did for the front. That means for our top we serged our edges.
Now align your two back pieces with the right sides facing each other and stitch along the center back seam from the hem edge to the single notch. This notch is denoted by the pin in the above photo.
When sewing the center back for view A I like to baste above the notch so that when I press the seam open I get a super clean line. This is totally optional though, you're free to simply press the seam allowance to the wrong side of the garment in the next step.
Press the seam allowance open along the stitching line. Above the notch if you haven't basted, press the seam allowance to the inside of the garment. You will now stitch along each side center back seam line at ¼" to secure the seam allowance and keyhole opening.
Now we'll fold the pleats at the center back of the top. Fold the outer notchs in to the finished edges of the back opening and pin the dart in place.
Now stitch across the dart to secure it while you work on the rest of your top. You'll want to stitch just inside of the seam allowance so ours is stitched at about 3/16".
That's it for the backs, super easy! Next up are the side and shoulder seams. Any questions let us know below!
