My BurdaStyle Book Dress

Like a lot of you out there, I got my BurdaStyle book and garment in the mail the other day, I’m surprised I even remembered what that sucker looked like it’s been so long since I’ve seen it! No photos of me wearing it because I made it in the hourglass pattern size they sent me since I had absolutely no time to make any extra adjustments (or make a muslin). This project happened to have a series of sort of unfortunate circumstances attached to it. Firstly the project was due a few days after my sister’s wedding and not only was I basically the wedding planner, but I also made her dress and had to do all the other things a sister does for her sister’s wedding. Way too much on my plate!! Secondly the fabrics honestly were not at all what I was expecting, which I think was pretty par for the course with this book from what I’ve read. Imagine my dismay when quilters cotton showed up in a box. Anyway…

The book turned out pretty awesome. There’s my dress variation in some pretty stellar company. I haven’t read through the entire book yet, been too busy sewing and making my greedy self coats, but I’m hoping to go through it more throughly before I slip into a turkey coma on Thursday. That little purple and green technical illustration in the second photo is the sketch I originally sent for my design. Who knew it would end up in the book, I would have spent a little more time on it!

Oh hey there CATFACE! Yeah, I use a ladder for a lot of my photos. Since Luke is a photographer we have a mini-studio set up in back that I steal all the time for photos. Roamy isn’t allowed in there unless I’m doing something and that cat LOVES a ladder. She was so all over the ladder that I couldn’t not take photos of her.

Also, thanks for all your kind words about my coat the other day! I’m working on a cape and winter coat this weekend that I’m hoping to turn into patterns if time allows. I sort of want to line the coat with Thinsulate but I also don’t want to drive all the way to Evanston to pick it up. Decisions decisions.

Your dress looks really cute, I like the buttons down the front. Did you get to suggest what fabric you wanted for the project?
Oh, and your cat is super cute! Cat’s always love height

most of us who were contributing to the book got a fabric that was so different from what we imagined… that was a definitely a drag for me too…(plus making a winter coat in the middle of the summer is not so inspiring…)
anyhow, now we are all grad it’s done and out! I’m gonna try the bag pattern to make a diaper bag, I think!

Your coat looks so awesome, my favorite coat in the book! I kind of want to make the bag pattern for a knitting project bag.

I love your variation in the book! And I got quilters cotton for mine too! The dress I made is super heavy because of that, bummer.

  4. The dress looks great! I love the colours and the curved panels seem like they would have a really flattering effect. Are you going to sew it up in your size? This is really tempting me to buy the book when it’s available in the UK…

Thanks! I’ll probably make one next summer in my size. The book is pretty great, lots of awesome patterns and variations!

  5. Hey! Thanks for showing us your version (and for me a closer look!) here as well!

We are in good company in the dress section. Well the whole book actually but I’ve got to represent the dresses!! Love your dress, definitely not enough green clothes in the world for my tastes
