Alright, it's time to report on my first finished garment for the Summer of Basics Make-Along, my Getty sweater! You may recognize this sweater from my Instagram account or the progress post I did a few weeks back. I finished this sweater back towards the end of June but this summer has been so busy with the launch of our website, new pattern, etc. that I only just got around to photographing it last week.

I made the Shibui Getty sweater as the first garment in my #summerofbasics wardrobe.

Getty is knit in the round with seamed sleeves, and this actually kind of threw me off a bit. While I was knitting the sweater I kept thinking "This is taking forevvverrrrr I will never finish this by the end of August!" I usually knit sweaters in pieces so working on the 200ish stitches of the body at once felt very slow. Despite feeling like I was working on the body forever, it actually only took me 21 days to knit, block & seam this sweater so obviously it's a pretty quick knit! The sweater is knit with Shibui Twig & Cima held together which makes a really interesting texture combined with the stitch pattern used here. The yarn softens up nicely when washed and blocked so if you're worried about knitting with the Twig, you really don't need to be. You can see how lovely the drape turned out in these photos. And can we talk about that neckline for a second? So good.

I can imagine this sweater becoming a real workhorse come fall & winter. It would be great on its own, layered with a slim tank or button up under it, or a larger button up or sweater over it. I'm also imagining it over something like an Alder or the new Varda pattern from Christine Haynes. I'm really excited to play with some layering options when the weather cooperates a bit, and possibly put together a few more styling posts like this one I did back in March.

I can't wait to finish up my second Summer of Basics garment to wear with this sweater, a black Moss skirt. I don't have a Moss that color wise I could wear with my Getty right now but I tried the two silhouettes on together and it was so awesome. Hoping to finish that up this week, it's a perfect #sob17bestcombo - which coincidentally is the prize we're sponsoring. How are your Summer of Basics garments coming along?

All opinions are my own and I was not required to make, or review, this sweater or yarn. I genuinely love the Shibui product, and only accept goods from companies I love. You can read more about my previous experience working with Shibui yarn in this post which was not sponsored in any way.
