We’ve got an easy day for you today in the Felix Sew-Along, we’re just sewing up those side seams. Four seams and you’re all done and can finally try on your dress!
To start I like to lay my dress out as shown, then move the self front out of the way to reveal the lining. This way I’m sure I’m not sewing the lining together inside out. As your dress is now, you can simply pin the side seams of the lining together and the right sides will be facing. So that said, pin the lining side seams together matching both ends, the waistline seam and the notches and sew using your 1/2″ seam allowance. Finish the side seams as desired. You can see in the above photo that we serged ours together.
Press the seam allowance to the back of the garment and repeat for the other side of the lining.
Now turn the dress inside out so that the lining is on the outside and the right sides of the self are facing. Align the side seams as you did for the lining and sew the side seams. Finish the seam allowances as desired and press towards the back of the dress.
That’s it, we’re done for today! Next up we’ll be putting sleeves on this dress, then binding the armholes of a sleeveless version. Now is a great time to try on your dress and double check that the shoulders are hitting you properly. If they’re extending too far over (minus the 1/2″ seam allowance) you can do a bit of a trim on them now. Other than that you’re all set till next time!
