Cascade Duffle Coat Inspiration

Today I wanted to share a little inspiration for the Cascade Duffle Coat from my Cascade Inspiration board on Pinterest. I pulled a mix of more classic styles as well as some that showcase interesting toggle applications.

Duffle coats are a traditional silhouette that has really made the transition to modern style quite well, I can’t imagine them ever really going out of style. They go so well with the timeless Breton top (as you can see in three of the photos above!) and I love the variation you can achieve with different fabrics, toggle applications, and even color-blocking. The color blocked one exists in my head but I couldn’t find an example to share. I can tell I’m going to end up with at least 2 more of these coats, is there a limit on how many coats are too many? I’m currently at 4 handmade coats… For more toggle & coat inspiration check out the Cascade Board here and if you’re looking for the Cascade Duffle pattern you can find that here in both print and PDF.

Ooh love these examples and I really like the examples with different toggle closures. Last night while surfing for inspiration I saw a couple of vintage examples that used a self fabric tube or strip (not sure how it was done obv) which I thought was really neat too. I bought that same yellow duffle coat from Boden earlier this year but the fit wasn’t right so I had to return it. Which is one of the reasons a dark mustardy yellow at Britex is one of my fabric temptations so far. Ha ha!

That yellow one! There’s a girl in my neighborhood that wears a yellow duffle coat and I sweat I stare at her like some kind of a lunatic whenever I see her… she probably thinks I’m creepy! I have two fabrics in my stash saved for this coat already, but I also really want to buy some red wool so I can look like Bob Balaban in Moonrise Kingdom. 🙂

Congrats on the new pattern! I was not thinking making a wool coat this winter… but you got me at the jacket version, I would love to make a version similar to the SeaSalt Jacket you pin on your board… just need to find the perfect fabric… and decide between red or marine…

Oh my goodness- how did I miss this pattern?! It’s the perfect casual coat which is what I have been after all winter! I have five hand tailored coats and never intend to stop- they are the only coats I’ve ever had that are actually warm! Totally worth the time and effort 🙂
Love your inspiration pictures too- especially the mustard one. 🙂

The yellow! I could never wear that colour, but it’s gorgeous. And sherpa lined hood! What about a full sherpa lining??? It would be SO COZY.
