a cold weather wednesday

27 : 365

This morning I baked up my first loaf from the book Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day and I have to report it was pretty tasty. I think I should have baked the bread for about 5 or so more minutes, but as it was my first loaf with this method, I’m pretty excited about how it turned out. You can test out the recipe here and see if you like the technique. Supposedly this bread comes out to about 50ยข a loaf, which, if true, is pretty amazing considering how expensive bread has gotten lately. I’m on a pretty tight budget here, so that could really open things up at the grocery store. This book has instructions to turn the basic dough recipes into pretty much any type of bread imaginable. I’m most excited to try the soft pretzels, maybe, just maybe, they’ll turn out something like the pretzels in Bavaria that nothing ever compares to.

warm tidings

And getting to the title of today’s post, sometime last night, between the time I went to bed and woke up, my heat went out. It took me a few hours to notice this fact, but by noon I was freezing! I went down to check the mail in an attempt to distract myself from the cold, and this was at my mailbox! A lovely hot water bottle from Erica wrapped up in lace with the sweetest card! Needless to say it put me in a good mood and warmed me all up at the same time! That’s what I call perfect timing!! Thanks lady!

Now off to keep sewing and then meet some friends for birthday celebrations.

I have the same book, and the bread is always awesome. I agree- when did a standard loaf of bread start to be a minimum of $2?? Jeez.

no way! for the past few months I talked a lot (with my husband) about making bread "honey, do you think I should make bread? do you think making bread is cool? will you love me more if I make fresh bread?"…I can be pretty insistant sometime! But after reading your post I think that I will make bread tomorrow! That should be fun right?
